Full Job Description

The Translational Radiobiology group, part of Radiotherapy Related Research at The University of Manchester, is looking to appoint a research fellow to lead work on personalised stratification for use in interventional clinical trials. The position is funded by Manchester a NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and is available for an initial 3 year period with the possibility of extending subject to funding.

The post holder will undertake research and experiments using a broad range of techniques and will work within a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, bioinformaticians and physicists. This is a critical time for personalised medicine development in Manchester with a focus on biomarker-driven trials. The project aims to use hypoxia biomarkers to personalise treatment to improve cancer outcomes. The successful candidate will develop the SELECT study (SELECTing hypoxic tumours for treatment modification). This study will pilot integration of our validated tissue and emerging imaging biomarkers of hypoxia into the patient pathway across Manchester and Lancashire. The tissue samples will also be used for full transcriptomic analysis (RNA-based biomarkers) to generate pilot data for emerging biomarkers (e.g. molecular classifiers, immune microenvironment signatures). The project is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to develop translational research skills and work in a laboratory that takes findings into clinical trials aiming for future patient benefit.
